I’m a huge music lover, so this prompt was perfect for me. I decided to combine two of my more recent favorite albums, Wonder by Shawn Mendes and Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne. I thought these two albums would pair nicely together because Wonder serves as a great backdrop for the focal point of Head Above Water. Also, I thought it would be a cool challenge to work with a color image and try to blend it with a black and white image.
The first thing I had to do when I put my images into GIMP was to crop around Avril Lavigne and her guitar. I wasn’t sure how much I’d actually have to cut out, so I started with just the main part of her body, leaving everything below her intact. I thought I’d be able to blend it in, with the water from the Wonder cover, but that wasn’t the case. So, I painstakingly cut around the reflection as well so I’d have to blend less. Once I had cut everything out, I had to figure out how to make it blend in with the background. I decided to only colorize the reflection because I wanted Avril to stand out amongst all the blue. To get the right blue, I used the color picker tool that was provided within the colorize option. I had to click in a few spots to find the perfect shade, but it wasn’t too difficult. Finally, I wanted to make sure there was no visible part of Shawn Mendes on my final image, so I used a similar process as I did with the reflection, except I selected the portion of the water that still had his arm and torso. This is probably the most editing I’ve done for a Daily Create, and even though I could have done more, I’m proud of what I made.
